Kim Kardashian's role on American Horror Story season 12 'announced' as fans remain divided

There's speculation about Kim Kardashian 's role on the next season of American Horror Story (AHS), as fans continue to be divided ahead of the show's return.

It comes after it was announced earlier this month that the reality TV star, 42, had been cast in the twelfth season of the anthology, which was co-created by Ryan Murphy, 57.

She is set to appear alongside returning cast member Emma Roberts, 32, and Matt Czuchry, 45, in the new season - which is expected to air in the coming months.

Filming for season 12 of AHS - which is said to be based on the Danielle Valentine's upcoming novel Delicate Condition - will reportedly begin next week.

Ahead of such, further details about Kim's role have been reported - with it claimed that she has been cast in a "main role" as a character who's said to be called Tanya.

Fan account @AHS_Source tweeted: "[Kim] will reportedly play a provocative painter named 'Tanya' in AHS12. She will have a main role and share many scenes with [Emma]."

The post - which was made on Twitter last night - has divided fans who reacted to the speculation in subsequent tweets as well as through discussion platform Reddit.

One person tweeted: "When you think it can't get worse. Really thinking about not watching this season." Another said: "Won't be watching cause of her." A third said: "Yikes".

Taking to Reddit earlier this morning, one person reacted to the post: "If she speaks her lines like she does in her SKIMS commercials [...] then it's gonna be bad."

Whilst another person commented: "I haven't watched AHS since I watch the first half of Hotel [which debuted in 2015]. I can't say this is making me want to pick it back up".

There however has been support for Kim though, with one person having tweeted: "I'm really hoping she pulls this off and that this season is actually horror".

Another tweeted: "Let's see how this turns out. I remember when [Lady] Gaga was cast and I was iffy about it until I saw Hotel and I was surprised but Kim is no Gaga so idk".

She will star alongside returning cast member Emma Roberts, who has appeared in five previous instalments including Coven (FX)

One fan wrote on Reddit: "Part of me is thinking she will nail it. Her [ Saturday Night Live ] skits were really good imo. I am interested in seeing how she does with this role."

"I just love when Kim proves people wrong and continues to strive for more, always elevating [...] I hope she's been practicing her acting skills tho," said another fan.

Another said: "I'm actually looking forward to this as an AHS fan. [...] I trust [Ryan] enough to know he can make a role that suits her personality despite her acting abilities".

Although known as a reality TV star and entrepreneur, Kim has previously ventured in acting with projects like CSI: NY and Temptation: Confessions of a Marriage Counselor.

She will join Emma and fellow actor Matt in the new series of AHS. Emma has previously appeared in its instalments Coven, Freak Show, Cult, Apocalypse and 1984.

According to the Hollywood Reporter (THR), the new season's source material follows a woman who becomes convinced that a "sinister figure" is trying to "make sure her pregnancy never happens."

In a statement issued to the outlet, Ryan said: "Halley Feiffer has written a fun, stylish and ultimately terrifying role especially for Kim, and this season is ambitious and unlike anything we have ever done."
