A Paris court awarded Kardashian the nominal sum on Tuesday, 15 September, after she had requested €1 (£0.86 or $1.15) in damages from some of those convicted over the 2016 robbery.
The 45-year-old was held at gunpoint and tied up inside her accommodation at the Hôtel de Pourtalès during Paris Fashion Week in October 2016. The robbers escaped with jewellery worth more than $6 million (£4.4 million), including a diamond engagement ring valued at around $4 million (£2.9 million).
Kardashian had previously testified that she thought she was going to die during the attack. The case was later taken to trial, with the reality star giving evidence about the impact of the robbery.
Kardashian Was Held at Gunpoint
The robbery took place on 2 October 2016, when Kardashian was staying at the Hôtel de Pourtalès during Paris Fashion Week.
Two of the attackers, dressed as police officers and wearing masks, forced their way into Kardashian's suite. They bound her with zip ties and tape before taking jewellery worth more than $6 million.
Among the stolen items was a diamond ring she had worn to a Givenchy show. The ring was reported to be worth about $4 million. Kardashian later described the robbery as deeply traumatic and testified during the 2025 criminal trial that she believed she was going to die.
Why She Asked for Just €1
Rather than seeking substantial financial compensation, Kardashian requested a symbolic payment of €1.
In a joint statement following Tuesday's ruling, Kardashian and her friend and stylist Simone Harouche said the experience had been deeply traumatic and that its impact had remained with them. They said the decision was not about compensation but about 'accountability and recognition.'
The court awarded Kardashian the €1 she had requested. Harouche, who was also present during the robbery, received the same symbolic amount. The compensation ruling was separate from the criminal proceedings that concluded in May 2025.
Other Victims Receive Compensation
Other parties affected by the robbery received larger awards in the civil proceedings.
A former receptionist at the Hôtel de Pourtalès was awarded €109,516 (approximately £94,000 or $126,000) after reporting trauma from the incident. The hotel itself received €50,000 (approximately £43,000 or $58,000).
The former receptionist said he had been traumatised by the 2 October 2016 jewel heist and had sought damages.
'Grandpa Robbers' Convicted in 2025
The men involved in the robbery became known in France as 'les papys braqueurs,' or the 'Grandpa Robbers,' because of their ages. In May 2025, a Paris court found eight of 10 defendants guilty in connection with the robbery, while two were acquitted. The convictions included Aomar Aït Khedache, whom prosecutors identified as the mastermind of the robbery.
Despite the convictions, none of those found guilty returned to prison because they had already served time in pretrial detention. Khedache was sentenced to eight years in prison, with five years suspended. Other defendants also received sentences that were partly or completely suspended.
Most of the jewellery stolen during the robbery has never been recovered, including Kardashian's engagement ring.
Nearly 10 Years After the Robbery
The €1 compensation ruling comes almost a decade after Kardashian was robbed at gunpoint in Paris. During the 2025 trial, Kardashian described the robbery as the most terrifying experience of her life and spoke about its lasting impact on her and her family.
Following the 2025 convictions, she said she was grateful to French authorities for pursuing justice and said the experience had left a lasting impact on her family. After Tuesday's compensation ruling, Kardashian and Harouche thanked the French justice system and said they hoped to move forward and continue to heal.
The €1 award reflects the symbolic amount Kardashian had requested in the civil case, with her joint statement emphasising accountability and recognition rather than the financial value of the compensation.
