North Korean leader Kim Jong Un oversaw the test launch of strategic cruise missiles from the nation’s new 5,000-ton naval destroyer Chloe Hyon, North Korea’s state media has said.
The test, conducted on Tuesday (March 10), involved missiles that flew for nearly three hours along a flight path over the Yellow Sea before hitting island targets, according to Korean Central News Agency (KCNA).
Footage aired by state-run television shows Kim and his teenage daughter observing the launch via video from what appeared to be a command centre.
KCNA reports Kim Jong Un said, "Important successes have been recently made in putting the strategic and tactical strike means on a practical basis and deploying them for an actual war. Such successes have updated the readiness of our army for strategic action."
