Greg Kiltie was disappointed to see St Mirren’s perfect start to the cinch Premiership season blemished by Aberdeen – but the Buddies midfielder insists that heads will not drop after their winning run was halted.
The Paisley side, who had won their previous five games on the bounce in all competitions, were trailing 1-0 at the interval against the Dons on Sunday, despite being the more impressive of the two teams.
Kiltie thought he had equalised upon the restart only for his goal to be chopped off due to an offside pass earlier in the move, but there was no debate when the midfielder rifled home a penalty kick with half an hour to go for 1-1.
Alex Grieve’s composed finish looked to have sealed the three points for Stephen Robinson’s side before a last-gasp Bojan Miovski penalty restored parity, although the Dons striker was fortunate it wasn’t disallowed after replays showed the ball striking his standing leg on its way to the back of the St Mirren net.
“It was quite dramatic, wasn’t it? Unfortunately it didn’t fall our way in the end but it had a bit of everything,” Kiltie said. “I definitely thought we deserved to win the game, we definitely controlled it. I agree we didn't take our chances, some were obviously out of our control as well.
“It was one of those days where it wasn’t meant to be but I definitely thought the way we played was a positive and to come away disappointed says it all.
“The boys showed character. This group never gives up. It's just one of those things where we lost the [opening] goal but had probably dominated for 44 minutes beforehand. We knew if we came out and played the same way, we were going to get chances.”
Kiltie added: “Obviously it would have been nice to [go top of the table]. We are just disappointed as it is anyway without looking at the table – just knowing we could have had three [wins] out of three.
“It's obviously disappointing, you never want to finish the game like that, but we are just trying to stay as positive as we can because everyone here saw the way we played. If we play like that, nine times out of 10 you probably come away with a positive result.”
