Kilmarnock Women gear up for exciting season with opener away to Boroughmuir Thistle

Kilmarnock Women are getting set to kick-off their campaign this weekend – with professional players for the first time.

The Ayrshire side head to Boroughmuir Thistle for their SWPFL2 opener on Sunday as Jim Chapman's side aim for a positive campaign.

Seven players penned professional deals with the club ahead of the new season, with a further 12 signing amateur deals.

A club spokesperson said: "The women’s leagues now falling under the SPFL heading holds great promise for the game in Scotland, building upon its massive growth in recent years and set to continue in this direction.

"The club holds great ambition within the women’s game and, alongside new head coach Jim Chapman, have high hopes for the upcoming season and future of the women’s team."

Laura McLaughlin, Lisa Swanson, Monica Harty, Alex Middleton, Abby Robinson and Georgia Crooks and Kirsty O’Brien are the seven players now playing with pro deals.

Players signing amateur deals are: Leia Swan, Kirsty Munro, Mhairi Crooks, Rebecca Galt, Collette Truswell and Abbey Mcdowall, Lauryn Reside, Eva Gray, Danielle Connolly, Reece McCulloch, Amie Docherty and Mhairi Fyfe.

Killie's first home game of the season will be at Rugby Park against Montrose next Sunday, with all fans welcome.
