Kilmarnock record gives Hamilton Accies extra motivation to win, says Brian Easton

Brian Easton admits Hamilton's poor record against Kilmarnock will give them extra motivation to succeed in the sides' final meeting of the season today.

The Accies skipper insists his side should have taken plenty of points off the Ayrshire men this term, but they haven't got the results their performances deserved, having met three times in the league already and in a Challenge Cup quarter-final defeat.

And he believes that frustration will give his side an added edge when they head to Rugby Park looking for a vital victory that would go a long way to making sure they stay well clear of the Championship drop zone.

Easton, whose side are seventh in the standings and seven clear of the relegation play-off spot, said: "It's coming down to the business end of the season and it's still really tight throughout the league.

"We played really well against Kilmarnock but we've just not got results against them this season. They just seem to be one of these teams that we just can't seem to beat, so hopefully that will change on Saturday.

"It's a big game for us and the way we've playing, the improvements we've been making, we'll be going there confident we can get a result.

"It will probably be mentioned how well we've played against them, but it will be highlighted that we've not picked up a point against them.
"I think that will be used as a wee bit of extra motivation to put that right against them.

"But we go to a team with a strong squad away from from home. It will be difficult but we should take confidence from the way we've been playing in recent weeks."

Accies go into the game off the back of a 1-1 draw at home to Inverness last Friday night and a much-needed 1-0 win over Morton the week before.

Easton has been kept out the side in recent weeks with the club on a five-game unbeaten run but he was happy to feature in Tuesday's bounce game with Ayr United.

It's been a stop-start season for the 33-year-old, but says he can have no complaints about being on the bench of late due to the club's form.

He added: "It would be different if I wasn't happy with the way I was playing, but the first part of the season I picked up Covid and the team changed.

"And they haven't had a real reason to change it because the boys in there have done really well.

"It's disappointing not to be playing but I can understand why.

"You are going to have players that aren't playing regularly, especially when the teams are doing well and putting in performances.

"But I played the first 45 minutes of the bounce game, which was great.

"It was something that was missing during Covid when we couldn't arrange these games.

"There will be players who need game time so things like that are really good, and there were a lot of young boys playing as well.

"We look at our squad and we see how strong that is and how much stronger it is getting every week we play, so I think it will be a good game with Kilmarnock."
