Kilmarnock performance surprised St Mirren boss Stephen Robinson after 'brilliant' training sessions

Stephen Robinson was shocked to see his troops misfire in their goalless draw against Kilmarnock after looking so slick in training.

The Buddies worked hard at Ralston all week but couldn't translate their efforts into Saturday's clash with Killie, that ultimately ended goalless thanks to St Mirren keeper Trevor Carson's heroics between the sticks.

Robinson admitted his side were far from their best and was more than happy to escape with a point.

He said: “You just get that sometimes. Worryingly I thought we were brilliant all week and it was the best we’ve trained!

"But we just didn’t quite take that on to the pitch. Nobody means to go out and play poorly, but what they do give me is 100 percent. Nobody can question that.

"They run themselves into the ground. We weren’t as good on the ball as we have been and our press wasn’t as good. But when you don’t play well it’s important you take a point and that’s what we’ve done.

"We tried to change it, we made five changes off the bench but nothing seemed to work. We probably got away with one. There’s no huge inquest, we just know we can be better than that.”
