Kilmarnock boss Derek McInnes spells out reality facing Jordan Jones

Kilmarnock boss Derek McInnes hopes Jordan Jones can "get his career going again" after returning to Rugby Park. Jones has joined the Scottish Premiership club on loan from Wigan Athletic.

The 27-year-old left Killie in 2019 to join Rangers but made just 19 appearances at Ibrox before moving to the Latics where he played 17 games.

Jones also had loan spells at Sunderland, Wigan and St Mirren. He made 21 appearances for the Black Cats, while at St Mirren he played 13 matches.

The most successful period of his career was at Killie where he made 118 appearances, scoring 11 league goals. He looks set to go into the squad for Saturday's Premier Sports Cup clash at home to Stenhousemuir.

Kilmarnock boss McInnes believes returning to Rugby park is an "important move" for the Northern Ireland winger, whose last cap came in November last year in a late cameo against Lithuania.

He told Sky Sports: "Jordan Jones is obviously familiar to the cub. We have been working hard on that one over the last couple of weeks.

"We feel he is the type of player are going to need. He brings a bit more speed and creativity to the team, and I think we need that added goal threat.

"Jordan being here before helps matter. There's no messing about and he is familiar with his surroundings.

"It is an important move for Jordan as well in terms of playing regular football and getting his career going again."
