Kilmarnock 0 Celtic 5 as Premiership champions run riot at Rugby Park

Celtic were in easy street as they hammered Kilmarnock this afternoon.

The Scottish Premiership champions dished out a thrashing to the league's new boys, leaving Derek McInnes' side with just one point from three games.

Kyogo Furuhashi, Jota, Moritz Jens, Carl Starfelt and Giorgos Giakoumakis all helped themselves to goals at Rugby Park.

Killie better recover quickly with a trip to Dingwall awaiting them next week, with defeat likely to send them bottom of the league.

Killie boss McInnes said: "It was the worst possible start, we spoke about the importance of that pre-match.

"We played our own part in the goal we lose early, it's far too simplistic, we were disappointed with that.

"It was two corner kicks, three goals in the six yard box, and even the Jota strike I feel like it should have been saved at first viewing.

"The goals came from our responsibility and lack of resolve to deal with that situation.

"Celtic will do that, win 5-0, but usually they produce more quality than that if they do.

"They were brilliant at what they did, they were probing, intense, they don't let you breathe, I expected us to defend our box better."

He continued: "It's clear we aren't ready to take on Celtic and get a result, it's been a tough couple of games.

"These games aren't going to define our season, but we certainly don't want to lose those type of goals.

"It was disappointing in terms of scoreline, we are embarrassed by it."

Furuhashi gave his side the lead after just seven minutes as he tumbled an effort home from six yards.

Fraser Murray went close for the hosts in the 23rd minute, but his effort went narrowly wide.

Celtic’s lead was doubled 10 minutes before half time when Jota picked up the ball and rifled an effort from distance into the top corner.

Two minutes later the Portuguese attacker could have doubled his money as he found himself through on goal, but Killie goalkeeper Sam Walker came out on top this time blocking the effort well.

But it was three and easy for Celtic on the stroke of half-time when Jenz made it two goals in as many games with a fine acrobatic finish.

Celtic made it four in the 76th minute when Starfelt fired home from close range after Walker made a couple of saves to deny him.

Eight minutes from time substitute Giakoumakis joined in with the acrobatic strikes to make it five for the Scottish Premiership champions.
