Killyleagh: Two taken to hospital after crash involving overturned lorry in Co Down

Two people were taken to hospital after a lorry overturned in Co Down.

Police responded to the scene of the crash in the Comber Road area of Killyleagh on Thursday morning.

A witness at the scene reported that the vehicle involved was a "bin lorry".

Officers from the PSNI, NIFRS and NIAS were in attendance with reports that the road remains closed this afternoon.

A spokesperson from the NIFRS said that one fire engine from Downpatrick Fire Station was tasked to the scene and firefighters used "cutting gear" to remove the two male casualties from the lorry

A PSNI spokesperson added: "Police received a report of a one-vehicle road traffic collision in the Comber Road area of Killyleagh shortly after 11am today, Thursday 9 February.

"Officers along with other emergency services attended the scene and two people were taken to hospital for treatment for their injuries.

"Anyone who may have witnessed the incident or who may have dash-cam footage that could assist with enquiries, is asked to contact police on 101 quoting reference 588 of 09/02/23."
