A 74-year-old man convicted of fatally stabbing his wife became the oldest person executed in Florida on Thursday, as the state prepares to put another 74-year-old inmate to death next month.

Dusty Ray Spencer was pronounced dead at 6:10 p.m. after receiving a three-drug lethal injection at Florida State Prison near Starke. He was sentenced to death for the 1992 stabbing murder of his wife, Karen Spencer.
