Killer Scots model’s family mourn cover-up brother who hid her murder gun

The brother of killer model Caroline Igoe, who was jailed for hiding her murder gun, has died.

Paul Igoe, who was caged alongside his sister for his role in the death of gangster Martyn Barclay, passed away in hospital in Edinburgh. His brother, Joseph Igoe jnr, announced the 50-year-old’s death on Facebook. He wrote: “I am writing this with a heavy heart on behalf of my whole family. My brother Paul passed away on Friday 10th February at 11.40.

“We would like to thank everyone who has reached out already for the love and support.” Niece Farrell Mcfadden also paid a tribute. She posted: “I miss and love you so much, Uncle Paul. Never felt pain like this. You’re the best guy ever.” And Paul Hunter wrote: “Had no words for days. Thought about you a lot, nothing will ever bring you back.

"I really do hope you’re at peace, you might be gone but you’ll always live inside me. Until we meet again. Celtic for life.” Paul was 37 when he was jailed for six years over his part in the 2009 murder of Barclay, 26, in Edinburgh.

Caroline Igoe executed Barclay with his own gun after he stayed out all night drinking with pals. She phoned Paul after she pulled the trigger and he raced to the scene.

He fled with the firearm, hiding it in woods near the city’s Craigmillar Castle. It was thought he might have been murdered in a gangland hit as part of a turf war for control of Edinburgh’s drug trade.

But officers found the weapon, a German-made Umarex Reck 92F 9mm converted from firing blanks to bullets, and officers unravelled the mystery behind his death. The investigation revealed that mum-of-four Igoe was responsible for the cold-blooded killing.

She was jailed for life over the January 17, 2009 murder. While being led down to the court cells in handcuffs to begin her 20-year jail term, she screamed at Paul.

She wanted him to take the rap for the murder and let her walk free as she had children. Barclay kept a handgun for protection hidden inside a pillow case in her bedroom.

And she used the weapon to shoot him in the head, before lying to the Record that she had been left “devastated” by his death and “been through hell”.
