Former Leeds United shot stopper Kiko Casilla is approaching the final chapter of his career after departing Elland Road earlier this summer. The Spaniard's contract was cancelled by mutual consent, leaving him free to head back to his native country.
Casilla was part of the Whites' side that won promotion to the Premier League, but was also involved in a racism scandal that saw him banned for eight games after being found guilty of racially abusing Charlton Athletic forward Jonathan Leko in 2019. The former Real Madrid keeper was unable to oust Illan Meslier from the number one spot and struggled for game time upon his return.
After coming through the youth set-up at Real Madrid, and having a similar name to Los Blancos legend Iker Casillas - the Whites' goalkeeper was touted for big things. However, that potential was never truly fulfilled and his time at Elland Road was a disappointment.

Leeds Live asked Matt Clark of La Liga Lowdown for an insight into Kiko Casilla's loan move to Elche and how he's fared since leaving Leeds United.
How did Casilla get on at Elche last season?
Matt Clark: "When Casilla signed for Elche it was a bit of a surprise, but he was the starting goalkeeper for Fran Escribá. However, after 12 consecutive matches, he was dropped after a poor run of form, before Escribá himself was sacked. Under Francisco, he never regained his place until the final two games of the season.
He's now at Getafe, how has he fared there?
MC: "In truth, unless you were a close follower, you could be forgiven for forgetting he was now at Getafe. He hasn't played a single minute in the league, deputising for the solid David Soria.
"He made his Getafe debut in the Copa del Rey two weeks ago and it didn't go well. He was at fault for two goals as they needed extra time to squeeze past fourth-tier San Roque de Lepe.
"'Casilla throws the Cup to the ground' was how Marca described it. Based on this, it is hard to see him getting many more opportunities any time soon."
Is it a matter of time before he retires?
MC: "It certainly seems that way. 36 is not too old by goalkeeping standards, but his time in the top-flight appears to be finished. He could always try a move to a second division side, unless he is content to stay on the bench in LaLiga."
How do you think people will look back on his career?
MC: "It's quite a tricky question to answer. From a Spanish perspective, his career would best be described as underwhelming. Coming through the Real Madrid academy, and with a name that forces you to think of the legendary Iker Casillas, he had promise that was never really fulfilled.
"He was only first-choice in three of four seasons of his career. In 13 seasons in LaLiga, he only made 154 appearances.
"That being said, he was part of the Real Madrid squad that won three consecutive Champions League trophies, as well as seven other honours including LaLiga before his move to Leeds. From a UK perspective, the racism scandal will always stay with him, which is what many will remember him for."
