Kieran Trippier points Jurgen Klopp in Andre Marriner's direction with Newcastle time wasting moans

Kieran Trippier says that Jurgen Klopp should speak to referee Andre Marriner if he has any serious complaints about time wasting.

Klopp flagged up Newcastle's methods of eating up the seconds during the 2-1 win which came courtesy of a late winner from Fábio Carvalho. United's defeat was inflicted in the 98th minute - something Klopp felt Newcastle deserved after trying to run the clock down.

Trippier said: "That's something the referee needs to get control of. We're coming away to Anfield, we set out a game plan so if he wants to complain about time wasting the referee and the officials have to take control.

"Obviously, the lads are devastated [to lose] but we're talking about coming away to Anfield and performing the way we did. You just need to look back over the years at the performances that Newcastle players have put in and it's totally different to this one. We've come so far in a short period of time and that's what people need to realise because we certainly do.

"Going to Anfield and conceding in the last second just shows how much it means to the lads and how disappointed they are because of the performance we put in. But we've got a game in two days so we need to forget about it."

Trippier hopes the defeat does not disrupt what he believes has been a good start to the new season. The loss was Newcastle's first in the Premier League since April.

Trippier said: "It's very tough to concede in the 98th minute when five minutes was supposed to be added on. We can't let the result take us off track because we've got a big game around the corner. It just shows how far we've come in a short period.

"It's one of them things, these things happen, I can't explain it, someone else is going to have to explain but it's tough to take, we conceded and we move on."

And he feels the mood in the camp is positive despite losing to Liverpool. Trippier said: "It is positive, everything is positive.

"In past seasons, Newcastle maybe haven't had a positive result before and you see how we've transformed as a team with the way we want to play.

"We want to get after teams and we've shown that away to Anfield. So to come here and play like this, especially in the first half where we unsettled them, and the way we defended as well, you can see the talent that we've got.

"To come to places like this is always going to be difficult, Liverpool are always going to have spells in the game where you're going to have to concentrate which I thought we did.

"Firmino scored a good goal but even after that we handled their momentum. But for them to score from a second phase after a set piece is difficult to take."
