Kieran Tierney took to Instagram to reveal his pride at wearing the captain’s armband for Arsenal during their win 1-0 over Aston Villa on Saturday lunchtime. The Scottish left-back received the honour after Alexandre Lacazette was substituted in the second half.
Bukayo Saka scored the only goal of the game at Villa Park to reaffirm the Gunners’ top four credentials. The win opened up a four point lead over fifth placed Manchester United going into the international break.
The Gunners produced a resilient performance against Villa, one which underlined the progress the club have made during Arteta’s tenure. However, one question that still remains is who will captain Arsenal next season?

The club have yet to appoint a permanent successor to Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang after he was stripped of the captaincy before he left for Barcelona in January. Lacazette was given the armband until the end of the campaign but his contract expires in June.
Tierney has often been mooted as the potential next skipper, and he took to Instagram to express his pride at taking over from Lacazette during the win at Villa. "Honour any chance I have to wear the armband," he posted on his Instagram story.
The 24-year-old is bound to be one of the front runners when Arteta makes his decision before the start of the next season. Next up for the Gunners is a trip to Crystal Palace on April 4.
