Kieran Tierney makes Arsenal Champions League claim ahead of Burnley Premier League clash

Kieran Tierney is determined to get Arsenal back into the Champions League by securing a top four finish this season.

The Gunners haven't been in the competition since 2017, but Tierney has insisted that the Gunners are too big a club to not be playing amongst Europe's elite.

He said, via the Mirror: “As an Arsenal player, you know the standards of the club and you know what the expectations are.

“But you also know where we’ve been in the last years as well.

“Fourth place is a good position — it is good progress and it’s something we can build on.

“But it’s something you take game by game. If you go on runs, you don’t know what can happen, good or bad.

“Of course, Arsenal belong in the Champions League and, obviously, in the last few years we haven’t done that, so to do that would great progress for the club.”

The Gunners have had a decent Premier League season so far, but have fallen short in the cup competitions.

After their exit in the Carabao Cup on Thursday and the FA Cup earlier this month, the top four is all that is left to compete for at the Emirates this campaign.

Mikel Arteta's side are currently in seventh position but with two games in hand on fourth placed Manchester United they can creep into the top four with a win against the Clarets.

It's very much a project for the future as things stand, but qualifying for Europe's elite tournament would be a major step in the right direction.
