Joe Ledley has urged Celtic hero Kieran Tierney to stay at Arsenal and fight for his place at the Premier League leaders - though he conceded he would love to see him return to Parkhead.
Tierney moved from Celtic Park to the Emirates in 2019, with his 170 appearances for the Hoops and 12 Scotland caps - alongside the first half of the 'quadruple treble' - making him arguably the world's most coveted young left-back at the time.
Arsenal came in and Tierney immediately was installed as first-choice, though last season, injuries hampered his time at the club. Oleksandr Zinchenko came in to offer him competition for the left-back slot, and his world-class ability as an inverted wing-back has seen him oust the Scotsman for that starting spot. Many would be dismayed at the news and perhaps look for a move to pastures new, but Tierney's determination is well documented. And Ledley has echoed those thoughts, telling Tierney to learn from Arteta and become only the sixth Scot to win the Premier League.
Ledley said: "Everyone I talk to who is into Arsenal always raves about Tierney and says how good he is and what he has done for the club, but it’s always difficult when the manager brings someone in for your position. It’s hard to get it back, but from the club’s point of view it’s great competition.
"Arsenal are doing so well at the moment, so sometimes you’ve just got to bide your time. From a selfish point of view, you need a bit of luck, like an injury to another player so I would say he should fight it out and not think about leaving because he’s learning even more working under Mikel Arteta.
"But I would love to see him back at Celtic one day because he has that fantastic bond with the fans. He’s a massive fan himself, so hopefully, he returns in the future."
