A new exhibition about children's experiences of the pandemic hopes to pave a way for youngsters to process the historical health crisis.
‘Our Pandemic’ will showcase a collection of stories, drawings and photographs told through the perspective of South Ayrshire kids.
Lockdowns, remote learning, isolation, loss and loneliness are just some of the topics which will feature at the exhibition held at Rozelle House in Ayr next month.
South Ayrshire Council have given all children and young people living in the area an opportunity to reflect on their experiences during Covid-19 by inviting schools and education centres to participate in the project.
Schools were provided with teaching resources to help facilitate discussion and reflection, while learners were encouraged to submit their thoughts in a range of media, including written, audio, and visual entries, to be displayed.
A spokesperson from the education team at South Ayrshire Council said: “Although we all experienced similar events and feelings, everyone had their own unique experience over the course of the Covid-19 pandemic.
“By giving our children and young people the chance to reflect on their collective and individual experiences we hope it will provide a way to process the last two years and to bring this period of uncertainty to a close.”
Following the run at Rozelle, the exhibition will tour round the communities of South Ayrshire to ensure as many people as possible have a chance to see it.
The spokesperson added: “We hope that those who visit our exhibition will also contribute some of their stories and experiences.
“We are looking forward to having the exhibition entries published in a book and we have a dedicated Twitter feed to showcase the work our children have produced.”
A selection of the exhibited work, chosen by children, will be stored by the Ayrshire Archives for future generations.
• ‘Our Pandemic’ will be displayed at Rozelle House Museum and Galleries in Ayr running from June 16 to 21 from 10am to 5pm.
