Lamar Odom fought back the tears while talking about the effects that his former drug addiction had on his marriage, during a teaser for his new documentary: Lamar Odom: Sex, Drugs & Kardashians.
In the Fox series, the NBA star will open up about his relationship with his ex-wife, Khloe Kardashian alongside his trouble past.
The interview for the documentary was conducted by a TMZ reporter, who asked Lamar about his sex and cocaine addictions, which subsequently contributed to the breakdown of his marriage to Khloe.
He said: "Drugs, that was my girlfriend. I had a wife, and I had cocaine."
The basketball star went further into detail about how it affected Khloe, saying that he had opened up about his addictions. He continued: "For part of our marriage, I had to tell her. You can't hide that forever.”
The interviewer simply said: “She stood by you”, to which Lamar replied: “Yeah, she did.” He then put his head in his hand, away from the camera.
Khloe and Lamar’s marriage lasted four years, before it ended in 2013 after she filed for divorce due to his addiction struggles and rumours that he had been unfaithful.
The former Los Angeles Lakers star has publicly expressed his regret and apologised to Khloe several times, telling People in 2019: "I wish I could have been more of a man. It still bothers me to this day. But regret is something we have to learn to live with."
Now, his documentary is set to premiere on January 2 2023, airing on Hulu the following day.
He announced the project to Instagram, however, reactions to the announcement were mixed.
One person commented: “Get your money," while another fan wrote: "I really hope you ain’t go out there and blast her."
Lamar’s post was then shared to another thread online, with more people quick to share their opinions.
One person said: "If didn't know a good thing till it’s gone was a person.”
Many felt that Lamar was milking his past relationship with Khloe, with one stating: "He's gonna milk that s**t 30 years down the road", and another chiming: "He stay milking his relationship with Khloe like maybe you should [have] acted right when you had her."
Others felt that Lamar wasn’t the victim in this situation, with a user writing: "Shouldn’t this special be called 'lies and prostitutes?' The title makes it seem like Lamar was the victim”, while another added: "I feel bad for Khloe, she really does have the worst exes".
