KFC occasionally brings back menu items for limited time offers . as it battles with Popeyes and Chick fil-A for No. 1 chicken chain and the repercussions of the chicken wars can give reparations to consumers in the form of great deals.
The one-time chicken king in March brought back supposedly a ‘gimmick’ product known as the Double Down sandwich for a limited time. The item had returned from KFC’s menu from back in 2014. The sandwich had made a viral debut and perhaps KFC was hopeful the return of the controversial sandwich would create a stir amongst its customers again.
The Double Down is a chicken ‘sandwich’ if you can even call it that. The ‘sandwich’ uses two slices of KFC’s delicious fried chicken as the buns of the sandwich with bacon and cheese between the two chicken filets.
In April, KFC brought back the fan favorite $5 Mac and Cheese bowl, featuring all-new, all-white meat KFC chicken nuggets.
Over the years, KFC has also brought back great deals on its menu that were popular. Yum! Brand's KFC (YUM) first launched its Fill-Up box back in 2009 for only $5 and brought it back numerous times in different variations. The $5 Fill-Up boxes had five menu options: one piece, two piece, tenders, pot pie, or a Famous Bowl Fill Up. All of the five Fill-Up options came with a drink and a cookie.
This popular selection of menu items returned numerous times, in part to help compete with Chick fil-A, who rules the roost and hasn’t lost its top spot as No. 1 chicken chain since taking it from KFC in 2014.
When Chick fil-A hit the road running and taking market share away from the fast-food giant, KFC would bring back great deals and marketing campaigns to reign its customers back in with its famous spices and herbs. KFC has used gimmicks to regain traction as well.

Even Picky Eaters Will Dig this KFC Return
The Colonel is re-introducing the Fill-Up box, but with more to fill up on and at a new price. KFC unveiled a new $20 Fill-Up Box on June 30, just in time to celebrate National Fried Chicken Day on July 6.
The $20 Fill-Up Box comes with a bunch of the Colonel’s favorites: 12 pieces of the new Kentucky Fried Chicken Nuggets, four pieces of chicken, fries, four biscuits, and choice of dipping sauces. The limited-time menu item, however, doesn't have an end date at this time.
To make the launch of the Colonel’s $20 Fill-Up box even sweeter, or spicy if you prefer, KFC has a special limited offer for customers using the KFC mobile app or who order online at KFC.com, as customers can get free delivery for their KFC order between July 3 and 9. This offer is only good at participating locations.
KFC's Summertime Special
The Ultimate BBQ Fried Chicken Sandwich and Blackberry Lemonade are also coming to KFC's menu this summer as well, and while cooling off with the delicious drink, guests are encouraged to register for an ultimate KFC give away.
Guests who use the KFC app or order online to place an order for the Ultimate BBQ Fried Chicken Sandwich during the window of July 3 through Aug. 13 will get a code that can be used to register for a chance to win an ultimate vacation getaway to Aruba. No purchase is necessary to enter to win, however.
Participants can still use snail mail to enter the contest as well. Mail-In entries must be handwritten and postmarked by Aug. 13 and mailed to: The KFC® Ultimate Summer Getaway Giveaway, P.O. Box 7748, Melville, NY 11775-7748. Enclosed in the envelope should be a handwritten note with the applicant's name, complete mailing address, email address, telephone number and date of birth on a plain 3-inch-by -5-inch piece of paper.
The grand prize winner will receive: A five day/four-night trip for two to Aruba. The trip includes airfare to the Queen Beatrix International Airport in Oranjestad, Aruba, a car rental for the trip, a sponsor-specified Sunset Dinner Cruise, UTV or ATV tour to Aruba’s Secret Beach and Cave Pool, Horseback beach and National Park Ride and $2,000 spending money awarded in the form of a check in the name of the Grand Prize winner.
