Leeds United midfielder Tyler Adams has enjoyed a positive start to life at Elland Road. Adams sealed a summer switch to the Whites from Red Bull Leipzig in July as Victor Orta got to work early on strengthening Jesse Marsch’s options in the centre of the park.
According to statistics released by the Other 14, an account that compiles statistic for the Premier League excluding the so called ‘big six’, Adams is among the best in the division for defensive contributions. Adams has made 11 tackles and interceptions in the opening two weeks of the season, behind only six other players in the division.
In terms of midfielders, Brighton & Hove Albion’s Moses Caicedo, Wolves’ Leander Dendoncker and Crystal Palace’s Jeffrey Schlupp are the only players with better statistics. Overall, though, it is in fact Adams’ teammate Pascal Struijk who is leading the way with 16 tackles and interceptions so far, having started the season filling in at left back.

Leeds have worked hard to improve their midfield over the summer, bringing in both and Adams and Marc Roca, with the latter arriving from Bayern Munich. Orta was tasked with replacing talisman Kalvin Phillips, who sealed a switch to Premier League champions.
Phillips was among Leeds’ best from both a defensive and passing standpoint, and it is Adams who has been tasked with filling the void of the former. The USMNT start has certainly made an excellent start to doing that, with the exit of Phillips not having been felt to a great extent as of yet.
