Key transfer targets identified as Nottingham Forest squad gear up for pre-season

Here’s the latest Nottingham Forest news on Wednesday, June 22, 2022.

Forest’s first step to Liverpool transfer

Nottingham Forest confirmed their first sale of the summer late on Monday night as Jayden Richardson joined Aberdeen for an undisclosed fee and may have also moved a step closer to one of their first signings in the process.

The 21-year-old leaves the City Ground after spending the second half of last season on loan at Notts County after previously stints away in League Two with Forest Green Rovers and Exeter. But it was his form at Meadow Lane , earning a place in the National League team of the season, that attracted interest from north of the border.

Richardson may have given Forest a parting gift as well, with his arrival at Pittodrie coming just a day after teenage right-back Calvin Ramsay's long-rumoured move in the opposite direction across the border to Liverpool was confirmed. The Dons received an initial £4.2 million from Jurgen Klopp's side, a portion of which will likely have come straight to the East Midlands for the academy graduate.

Samba gearing up for pre-season

While there may be uncertainty over the future of Nottingham Forest goalkeeper Brice Samba, that has not stopped him preparing for the start of pre-season.

Samba is entering the final year of his contract at the City Ground and is said to have turned down a new contract as well as telling the club that he wishes to leave this summer. It has caused Forest to turn to potential replacements with a move for Manchester United’s Dean Henderson on the cards.

Samba played a big part in Forest ’s promotion to the Premier League last season. He was the hero in the play-off semi-final, saving three Sheffield United’s penalty kicks in the shootout at the City Ground.

Forest identify ‘key transfer targets’

Nottingham Forest have made Tottenham Hotspur defender Joe Rodon one of his ‘key targets’ this summer as Steve Cooper eyes a reunion with his former player.

Rodon played under the Reds boss during the duo’s time at Swansea City. The central defender moved from south Wales to Tottenham back in October 2020 but has failed to nail down a place in the starting line-up in north London.

The 24-year-old played a total of 10 times in all competitions last season with just three of those appearances coming in the Premier League . He could therefore move on this summer in search for more game time.

Forest offer ‘complicated’ discussion

Nottingham Forest's reported first offer made to Mainz in transfer negotiations over Moussa Niakhate has been described as 'ridiculous' and said to have "complicated" the discussions.

The Bundesliga club's captain has been heavily linked with bolstering Steve Cooper 's back line this summer with a move rumoured after four years by the Rhine River. NottinghamshireLive understands that Cooper is keen to sign the defender and that the club have held talks with the player.

A former France under-21 international, the 26-year-old has previously attracted interest from other Premier League clubs. Everton , Newcastle United and West Ham United were all linked back in April and now may have the opportunity to re-enter the frame if reports in Germany are to be believed.
