Kevin Sinfield reveals emotional marathon finish with Rob Burrow did not go according to plan

Kevin Sinfield has revealed the moment he carried Rob Burrow over the finish line of the Rob Burrow Marathon wasn't planned.

People were reduced to tears the moment Kevin lifted his friend out of his seat and carried him over the finishing line on Sunday, May 14. The pair were cheered on by thousands as they made their way around the track, starting and finishing at Headingley Stadium.

Sinfield had pushed Burrow throughout the marathon, in attempts to raise money for Motor Neurone Disease. However, the ex-captain of Leeds Rhinos revealed the moment he lifted his friend out of his seat and carried him over the finishing line was not actually planned.

Sinfield appeared on ITV This Morning on Wednesday (May 24) along with Rob Burrow and his wife Lindsey via video link from their home in Leeds. He spoke of the pair's heart-warming finish at the Rob Burrow marathon in the city on Sunday, May 14.

And he revealed their initial idea for the finale was to get Rob out of his chair and "get some weight through his feet" to enable him to cross the finish line, however the heat on the day took its toll on them both.

Kevin said: "We realised during the marathon it had taken its toll on all of us, it was a really hot day and everyone is training in the cold and the wet and the wind and suddenly you turn up on marathon day and it's 18/19C so suddenly it changed.

"Rob got uncomfortable at times in the chair as well, it was the first time we had gone that distance and it meant we had to get him out the chair a fair bit - we had 28 minutes of stoppages. So yeah we had to change but actually I wouldn't have had it any other way, it was a beautiful moment."

Kevin went on to talk about how good of a rugby player Rob was back in the day.

He said: "He was superman, he just had superpowers. He terrorised the big men, a lot of big men targeted Rob but he got his own back and more - in big games he delivered, he came up with big moments for us. It was an incredible team we both played in."
