Kevin Pietersen has revealed he would like to help coach the England Test team, claiming the side need coaches who are "not scared to lose their job".
Pietersen is one of England's best ever batters, having scored 8,181 runs at an average of 47.28 in 104 Test appearances with only Alastair Cook, Joe Root, Graham Gooch, Alec Stewart and David Gower scoring more.
Although the 41-year-old has not done any formal coaching since his retirement in 2018, he says he would "like to help this new young England batting side". In an appearance on the Barmy Army's 'The Shackles Are Off' podcast, Pietersen said: "I'd like to help these new youngsters.
"I'd like to help this new young England batting side. I'd like to help them because I think what England need is they need a couple of coaches in there that are not scared to lose their job.
"But to really back them. Back the youngsters and give them that positive mindset on thinking outside of the box, being creative, and being positive.
"So it's not a position where you look at a lot of coaches around the world and you think 'he needs that job'. I don't need that job but I would like to help these guys.
"I would look at it for sure." England are in the midst of a so-called 'red ball reset' under a new captain and coach combination of Ben Stokes and Brendon McCullum and Pietersen believes their appointments are a "positive change".
Speaking to Betway, Pietersen said: "Brendon McCullum is a very interesting choice as England’s Test match coach. I think his brand of cricket is one that will be along the same lines as what Rob Key and Ben Stokes want.
"It's also what the paying public want to watch. Something needed to change, and this is positive change."
