Kevin Hart says that there are some stars who should never be targeted at brutal celebrity roasts.
After the comedian, 46, faced the wrath of fellow A-listers during Netflix’s Roast of Kevin Hart last month, he reflected on the long-running celebrity tradition during his appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live Wednesday and said that the next person who steps up to be roasted will have to be “brave enough” and a “real big name.”
Kimmel then asked if Hart could picture Oprah Winfrey as the subject of a roast — which left Hart speechless and shaking his head as the audience burst into laughter.
“Would that be unacceptable? That’d be like spray painting the Sistine Chapel?” Kimmel, 58, said with a laugh.
“If I found out that Oprah said she wanted to do it, I’m driving 100 miles per hour to Oprah’s house,” Hart said, adding that he would tell the iconic media mogul: “You cannot do this. No shot.”
The Ride Along star was ripped to shreds during his three-hour roast as part of the Netflix Is a Joke Festival. He was put in the hot seat while celebrities including Chelsea Handler, Pete Davidson and Katt Williams took aim at him, with surprise appearances from Dwayne Johnson and Tom Brady, who was previously the subject of another Netflix roast hosted by Hart in 2024.
Hart admitted to Kimmel during his talk show appearance that several of the jokes “hurt,” with one that surprised him being from Johnson about his late father, Henry Robert Witherspoon.
“I think the one that caught me off guard, Dwayne,” the actor said. “Dwayne had the picture of my father and he had a mug shot of my dad and he goes, ‘Look at my dad. Kev, we both love our dads.’”
Hart said Johnson, 54, brought a picture of his father — late wrestler Rocky Johnson — that showed him “in shape, you know, coming from the gym.”
Then, when he showed a picture of Witherspoon, Hart said “it was the worst picture of my father I’ve ever seen.”
“The worst picture of my father,” he said. “It caught me off guard, but it was funny.”
Hart added: “Anything done with the effort of giving a laugh, I’m always going to give it the benefit of the doubt. All the stuff said about me, you know, I’m like, look, it is what it is. They’re jokes at the end of the day.”
