Although Marvel was able to pack a lot into its San Diego Comic-Con 2026 panel last weekend, there was one project that was left out. However, right after the panel ended, Kevin Feige confirmed that the Nova movie is still happening.
When asked for an update on Nova after the Marvel SDCC panel had ended, Feige had to check what he could reveal, which doesn't appear to be much. "Not a damn thing. It's a movie," said Feige to Brandon Davis. Well, that's not much of an update, but at least that's confirmation that the project is still happening.
Earlier this month, Deadline revealed that Nova was moving forward as a movie with Loki and Doctor Strange scribe Michael Waldron attached to write. The studio had previously been developing the idea as a TV show over at Disney Plus, but that was shelved in 2025. However, it seems as though the movie is still in the very early developmental stages, which is probably why it wasn't mentioned at SDCC.
First introduced in 1976, Nova is an intergalactic hero with superhuman strength and resilience. He is the host of the entire Nova Force, which grants him his powers. Although he doesn't have many run-ins with the usual MCU characters, Nova (Richard Rider) is part of the Nova Corps, who have already made their introduction in the cinematic universe in 2014's Guardians of the Galaxy.
However, the studio did make many exciting announcements at SDCC 2026. Feige unveiled Shawn Levy's upcoming Ghost Rider movie starring Ryan Gosling, and Ryan Coogler announced Alien: Romulus star David Jonsson as the new Black Panther 3 lead. Plus, the cast of Avengers: Doomsday took to the stage and showed footage from the movie.
It is not clear when we will hear more on Nova. Marvel's slate is pretty packed full. After Spider-Man: Brand New Day hits screens this week, VisionQuest is set to land on Disney Plus in October, followed by Avengers: Doomsday in December, and Avengers: Secret Wars the year after. Plus, with Ghost Rider and Black Panther 3 officially announced, we expect those projects to take precedence.
