Kevin Feige admits "when quantity is so much, you get spread thin," which is why there are no Marvel movies between Avengers: Doomsday and Secret Wars

Marvel boss Kevin Feige has opened up on why there's a gap of Marvel movies between the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday and Secret Wars.

At Marvel's Hall H panel at this year's San Diego Comic-Con, a Ghost Rider movie starring Ryan Gosling and Black Panther 3 starring David Jonsson were both announced – but neither will arrive until 2028, leaving a big movie gap between Doomsday and Secret Wars.

"A lot of it is a strategy we've talked about for a while, of focusing on quality," Feige told Empire magazine after the panel. "We always try to focus on quality, but when quantity is so much, you get spread thin. We didn't want to be spread thin, and the Avengers is as important as it comes.

"And Secret Wars, in particular for Empire readers, who know the comics, is a setup in and of itself to the future, to what's next," he added. "So really, it was landing those two movies and setting up 2028, of which we've revealed two of them so far, Ghost Rider and Panther 3."

Doomsday arrives this December 18, while Secret Wars lands on December 17, 2027. That's a long stretch of time without a Marvel movie. However, there will be at least one show: Daredevil: Born Again season 3 arrives in March 2027.

As for Ghost Rider, that film will be directed by Shawn Levy. Ryan Coogler returns to direct Black Panther 3. Jonsson will play T'Challa's son, also named T'Challa, who was introduced in the Wakanda Forever post-credits scene.

"In this next film, he grows up, comes of age, and we had to find an incredible actor," Coogler shared.

Next up for Marvel is Spider-Man: Brand New Day, which arrives this July 29 in the UK and July 31 in the US. In the meantime, check out our guide to all the upcoming Marvel movies and shows for everything else that's in store.
