Kevin De Bruyne scores third quickest hat-trick in Premier League history

Kevin de Bruyne scored the third-fastest hat-trick in Premier League history as he boosted Manchester City's title hopes against Wolves.

The Belgian midfielder has single-handedly put City in pole position to regain their three-point lead over Liverpool at the top of the table at Molineux with a super first half hat-trick - before adding a fourth after the break.

De Bruyne opened the scoring for Pep Guardiola's side in the 7th minute as the playmaker drilled a low left-footed strike past Jose Sa, before Bruno Lage's men instantly got back on level terms through Leander Dendoncker.

The playmaker instantly restored City's lead five minutes later, however, as he struck home the rebound from Raheem Sterling's shot, before putting the visitors 3-1 ahead with only 24 minutes gone on the clock.

De Bruyne's third was the pick of the bunch as he picked up the ball close to the centre circle and drove forward before unleashing an unstoppable shot with his left-foot past the helpless Sa.

De Bruyne then added a fourth goal of the contest with a close-range finish as Wolves failed to clear Phil Foden's cross.

It's the third-fastest hattrick in the history of the Premier League with only Dwight Yorke and Sadio Mane ahead of him. Yorke scored a 22-minute hat-trick on February 25, 2001 when Manchester United demolished Arsenal 6-1.

Mane holds the record with an unbelievable 16-minute hattrick that he scored in his debut season for Southampton on May 16, 2015.

This was De Bruyne's first-ever hattrick for City and what a time to get it with the stakes higher than ever as City attempt to close in on a Premier League title.

Guardiola's men knew three points were a must heading into Wednesday night's clash against Wolves as Liverpool closed the gap at the top following their 2-1 win over Aston Villa on Tuesday night.

After smashing home his hat-trick, the 30-year-old sent a message to Erling Haaland by bringing out the meditation celebration following the announcement that the striker will join City in the summer.

City have agreed on a verbal deal with Borussia Dortmund and the Norwegian has reportedly struck personal terms with his new employers in April as he is set to put pen to paper on a five-year contract that will see him earn £400,000 per week at City.

And with De Bruyne displaying this rich vein of form in front of goal, City are a dangerous proposition with both players at their disposal.
