Kevin Bridges confirms death of beloved dad and 'biggest influence' on Scots comedian

Kevin Bridges' father, Andy Bridges, has passed away at the age of 75.

The dad was surrounded by his wife, Patricia, and the rest of his loving family when he sadly died on Thursday. A spokesperson for the 36-year-old comedian confirmed his passing to the Mirror.

His cause of death is currently unknown, but a family friend said Andy had been battling poor health in recent months. Over the years, Andy was extremely supportive of his son's career and even drove him to The Stand Comedy Club in Glasgow for his first open mic spot when he was 17.

Since then, Andy has been Kevin's mentor in comedy and is thought to have been 'the biggest influence' on his son's career. Kevin had a very close relationship with his father and Andy often featured in his son's stand up routines.

"Patricia, who was his wife for 47 years, was by his side along with his sons John and Kevin as well as Kevin’s wife and his grandson Liam," a family friend has said when discussing Andy's death. Andy was Kevin’s mentor and took him to his first ever gig when he was a teenager. He was still bouncing new material off him in recent weeks.

"Andy was absolutely hilarious and that’s where Kevin got his comedy skills from," the source added when speaking with The Sun.

The Daily Record approached Kevin Bridges' representative for further comment.
