‘Ketamine Queen’ Sentenced To 15 Years In Prison For Selling Matthew Perry Drugs That Killed Him

A federal judge on Wednesday sentenced Jasveen Sangha, known as the Ketamine Queen, to 15 years in prison after she pleaded guilty to supplying the ketamine that led to the 2023 death of actor Matthew Perry.

The 42-year-old is the third of five defendants to be sentenced after pleading guilty in connection with the overdose of the 54-year-old actor.

Jasveen Sangha is the only defendant whose plea deal included an acknowledgment that her actions directly caused Matthew Perry’s death.

Prosecutors recommended a 15-year prison term, portraying Sangha in court filings as a “Ketamine Queen” who ran an elaborate drug operation catering to high-end clients, funding a jet-setting lifestyle despite a privileged upbringing.

In response, Sangha’s attorneys argued that the time she has already spent in jail since her August 2024 indictment should be sufficient. They highlighted her lack of a prior criminal record, exemplary behaviour in custody, and the low likelihood she would return to drug dealing.

Matthew Perry was discovered dead in the hot tub at his Los Angeles home. The medical examiner determined that ketamine, a drug commonly used as a surgical anesthetic, was the primary cause of his death.

Matthew Perry had initially used ketamine legally through his regular doctor as an off-label treatment for depression, but he sought doses beyond what his physician would provide.

This led him first to Dr. Salvador Plasencia, who admitted to selling Perry ketamine illegally and was sentenced to two-and-a-half years in prison, slightly below the three years prosecutors had requested. Perry later obtained 25 vials of ketamine, including the fatal dose, from Jasveen Sangha, who sold them for $6,000 in cash just four days before his death, according to prosecutors.

Another doctor, who supplied Plasencia with the ketamine he sold to Perry, received eight months of home detention. Perry’s assistant and a friend, both of whom admitted to acting as intermediaries in the purchases, are still awaiting sentencing.

The judge noted that she is carefully coordinating the sentences of all five defendants to ensure they are consistent and make sense collectively.

In September, Jasveen Sangha pleaded guilty to one count of using her home for drug distribution, three counts of distributing ketamine, and one count of distributing ketamine resulting in death. She also admitted to selling a total of 51 vials of ketamine to 33-year-old Cody McLaury, who had no connection to Matthew Perry, prior to his overdose death in 2019.

Prosecutors argued that Sangha continued drug dealing even after her plea, demonstrating a lack of remorse. According to their sentencing filings, in 2020, when she learned that the ketamine she sold McLaury contributed to his death, “she didn’t care and kept selling”. Similarly, in 2023, after discovering that the drugs she sold Perry caused his death, “her reaction was the same: she didn’t care and kept selling”.

Perry rose to international fame for his portrayal of Chandler Bing on the hit sitcom Friends during the 1990s and early 2000s, becoming one of the most recognisable television stars of his generation.
