The documentary, commissioned by Channel 5, delves into the series of crises faced by the royal family in the first three months of 2024, posing significant challenges to the monarchy.
The film portrays a narrative of a king battling cancer, a princess undergoing preventative chemotherapy, and an heir grappling with the balance between privacy and duty. Directed by Myles Judd and executive produced by Daniel Smith, the documentary features insights from royal commentators and journalists, shedding light on the impact of recent royal crises and the ensuing conspiracy theories.
Anke Stoll, Keshet's SVP of acquisitions and co-productions, expressed enthusiasm for the collaboration with ITN Productions, highlighting their expertise in producing timely documentaries. ITN Productions, known for its fast-turnaround documentaries, garnered an Oscar nomination for 'For Sama' in 2020 and 'Watani: My Homeland' in 2017.
ITN Productions' head of international programs, Ian Russell, emphasized the global interest in the British monarchy and the significance of taking this story to the international market. The documentary is set to premiere on Channel 5 in the U.K., with Keshet's distribution plans extending to the international market. Keshet's upcoming unscripted slate includes 'Earthbound,' narrated by Orlando Bloom; 'SAS: Catching the Criminals,' presented by ex-SAS leader Billy Billingham for BBC One; and 'Arctic Wildlife in Lapland,' a natural history docuseries focusing on Fennoscandia's landscape.
