KOCHI: As the infection caused by highly-transmissible Omicron variant is spreading rapidly across India in January, Kerala reported the maximum number of Covid deaths in the country.
During the third wave between January 1 and 26, 5,25,245 persons were infected in Kerala and there were 790 new deaths (excluding backlog deaths that happened much earlier but were not reported as Covid-related partly because of the insufficient documentation and government's resistance to acknowledge comorbidities as an inevitable factor in Covid fatalities).
