THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The fourth session of the 15th legislative assembly began on Friday without the usual camaraderie seen on the first day of the session between members and the governor.
The standoff between the government and governor Arif Mohammed Khan was resolved to ensure a smooth beginning to the session but the opposition UDF staged a strong protest against the governor inside the assembly. UDF members raised "go back" slogans against the governor and later staged a sit-in protest in front of the House after boycotting the proceedings.
In his one-hour-long policy address marking the beginning of the session, Khan listed out the achievements of the LDF government in the past year, its future plans and even criticism of the Union government. The mood was, however, sombre even in the treasury benches, with hardly any applause even for portions mentioning the government's achievements.
As opposition leader V D Satheesan rose to speak, the governor chided him saying it is not the time for protest and there is enough time and opportunity for discussing all these matters in the assembly.
