KOZHIKODE: The death of a 24-year-old, who was found dead inside his house at Meppadi in Wayanad on Monday morning, has turned out to be a murder. The police have arrested the father of the deceased youth in connection with the case.
Meppadi police on Tuesday recorded the arrest of his father Mohanan, who is an expatriate returnee, on murder charges in connection with the death of his son Akshay Mohan of Thonipadam House at Mankunnu, who was found dead in his bedroom. Meppadi inspector of police A B Vibin said that the deceased youth had a history of drug abuse and the father had a fight with the son over it in the wee hours of Monday and strangulated him using a towel during the scuffle.
Police said that the mother and sister of Akshay had gone to a neighbouring house on Sunday night after he got violent allegedly after drug use. The father and son were alone at the house when the incident took place. The body of the youth was taken to the hospital in the morning and was pronounced brought dead. The hospital authorities got suspicious on seeing the strangulation marks on the neck.
Police said that the father later confessed to strangulating the son during the scuffle. Meppadi police who had initially registered a case of unnatural death altered the section to murder. The post mortem report has also confirmed death due to strangulation.
Police said that the youth was a BBA-IATA degree holder and had undergone rehab treatment for drug addiction some time back. He had earlier worked as an airport ground handling staff at the Bengaluru international airport.
