Kerala: CPM leader hacked to death in Palakkad

KOCHI: On the eve of Independence Day, Shajahan, 40, a CPM leader in Palakkad district in Kerala was hacked to death on Sunday night.

As per preliminary reports, it was a two-member gang who arrived on a bike near Shajahan’s residence at Kottekkad in Palakkad district at around 9.15 pm on Sunday which hacked him.

The CPM alleges that the murder is the handiwork of RSS. The police have started a probe into the incident.

The body of Shajahan has been kept at Palakkad district hospital. Shajahan was CPM Kottekkad local committee member. There has been a threat on his life, it is reported.

It has been reported that there had not been any political tension in the area for the past several years.

"It can be seen as a willful attempt to create tension in the area. We have given instructions to our party workers not to engage in any provocation," CPM central committee member A K Balan said. On whether the murder was committed by RSS, Balan said that let the police probe it and bring out the real culprits.
