Kerala: Centre fanning anger & hatred among communities, says Rahul Gandhi

KOZHIKODE: Congress leader and Wayanad MP Rahul Gandhi, who is on a two-day visit to his constituency, lashed out at the central government saying that it was creating anger and hatred between different communities.

Speaking at the inauguration of works of a road project at Chundakkara in Wayanad on Tuesday, Gandhi said, "As you know, the country is quite divided. The BJP government at the Centre creates anger and hatred between different communities, attacks certain communities," he said, adding that Congress does not believe in that ideology and instead believes that India belongs to everybody, all religions, all communities, all people.

There is an ideological fight going on between the ideology of division, the ideology of hatred which is the BJP and the RSS and the ideology of affection, of love and unity which is the Congress party, he said.

Gandhi also took up the issue of thousands of debt-ridden farmers in the agrarian district of Wayanad getting notices from banks demanding immediate repayment of their loans. "Today 30,000 farmers in Wayanad have been sent notices to repay their loans. It is a few signatures on a piece of paper for the bank officers. But it is a death sentence for the 30,000 farmers, especially with the rising fuel prices and rising commodity prices," he said.

Gandhi said that India has to unleash the power of its farmers and not crush its farmers and added that policies need to be sensitive towards farmers and appreciate the struggles that the farmers go through.

"We need to ask the question why Vijay Mallya can take Rs 9,000 crore away from the country and is living in London or Nirav Modi who has taken thousands of crores and is living somewhere else. Why are the banks treating farmers unfairly? You will readily refinance the loans of big industrialists and will be flexible when you deal with them. The same flexibility should be shown to the farmers," said Gandhi.

He also urged the state government to put pressure on the central government to act quickly to bring back the students stranded in Ukraine.
