Kerala: 99.26% clear SSLC exam, huge fall in number of A+ scorers

T'PURAM: The SSLC results of 2022 recorded a big slump in the number of candidates who secured A+ in all subjects. Only 44,363 candidates secured A+ for all subjects this year while 1,25,509 achieved the feat last year.

General education minister V Sivankutty, who announced the results, attributed the special circumstances and arrangements in which all students attended the exam in 2021 as the reason for the huge increase in full A+ holders. "Last year, students were given double the number of questions to choose from," said director of general education Jeevan Babu K. Sivankutty tried to justify the huge slump by listing out the much moderate number of all A+ holders before 2021.

Candidates declared eligible for higher studies in the academic year 2022 is 99.26%. It is slightly lower than last year's 99.47%. The all-time record of full A+ holders last year had led to widespread complaints that even those who got full A+ could not secure Plus One admissions in schools/subject combinations of their choice. Taking a cue from last year's experience, general education department did not favour multiple question option this time.

Of the 4,26,469 students who appeared for exam this year, 4,23,303 became eligible for higher studies. Offline classes were not in full swing when these students appeared for exam in March and April. Since non-curricular activities were almost nil during the academic year, government did not grant grace marks to students, who would have been eligible for the same .

In terms of revenue district, the highest pass percentage was recorded in Kannur (99.76). The district with the lowest pass percentage is Wayanad (98.07). Educational district with the highest pass percentage is Pala (99.94). Malappuram topped in terms of the number of students winning full A+ students.

There were nine exam centres in the Gulf where 571 students appeared for the exam; 561 became eligible for higher studies. The pass percentage is 98.25. In Lakshadweep where 882 students wrote the exam, 785 passed and the pass percentage is 89%. Application for revaluation can be submitted online from June 16 to 21. The higher secondary results will be announced on June 21.
