Kenya's Ebola count rose to eight on Sunday, Oct. 18, after a 49-year-old patient attendant who had cared for the country's first patient tested positive while in quarantine, Health Ministry Director-General Dr. Patrick Amoth said, the Associated Press reported. A day earlier, the ministry confirmed that three health workers who treated the same patient had also tested positive.
That means half of Kenya's cases now involve people who were infected while caring for a patient. The other four are the first patient, a 40-year-old man who died Oct. 5 after traveling from Congo through Uganda, and three of his relatives. Officials say every case is linked to that patient and that there is no evidence of community spread.
