Kentucky unemployment numbers tick up slightly

Kentucky’s most recent unemployment numbers have been released and the jobless rate has ticked up slightly.

According to the Kentucky Center for Statistics, preliminary numbers show Kentucky’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate for April, 2024 was 4.6%. That was up one-tenth of a point from March 2024 and an increase of six-tenths of a point from one year ago.

 The U.S. Department of Labor says the national seasonally adjusted jobless rate for April 2024 was 3.9% up from the 3.8% recorded for March 2024.

Kentucky’s civilian labor force was over 2,033,000 in April 2024, an increase of just over 6,000 individuals from March 2024.

The number of people employed in April increased by around 3,600 to nearly 2 million while the number unemployed increased by over 2,400 to just over 93,000.

Woodford County, in central Kentucky recorded the lowest unemployment rate in the commonwealth, at 3.7% while Magoffin County, in eastern Kentucky has the highest jobless rate at 11.1%.
