Kentucky teacher becomes first person arrested under new anti-grooming law after parent allegedly finds messages with 14-year-old

The arrest of Sadie Flores represents a landmark legal milestone as the first enforcement of Kentucky’s newly enacted anti-grooming law. Flores, 25, worked as a teacher at Graves County Middle School in Mayfield before her Aug. 7 arrest by the Graves County Sheriff’s Office. She is now facing a felony charge of grooming a minor under House Bill 4.

The statute is specifically designed to penalize predatory behavior before physical or sexual abuse occurs. The investigation into Flores began when the parent of a 14-year-old student allegedly discovered communications between the teacher and the minor. The parent immediately alerted school staff, who then contacted law enforcement to report what they suspected was a case of grooming.
