Three Requests for Proposal from eastern Kentucky-based utility Kentucky Power say the company is looking into buying more wind, solar and thermal energy sources for homes in the region.
The requests say the company is looking to buy new or existing sources connected to the PJM electricity transmission grid. That also includes a battery storage facility.
Those sources could come from out of state. The grid’s region includes eastern Kentucky, but it also includes 12 other states across the northeast, as well as Washington, D.C. Kentucky Power’s parent company, American Electric Power, is based in Columbus, Ohio.
The final purchase agreement would see the power company acquire around 875 megawatts of power capacity in the summer, and around 1,300 megawatts of capacity in winter.
Proposals are due November 8.
