Kentucky is preparing to send help to Florida and other areas being hit by Hurricane Ian. The Kentucky National Guard has been activated and will send three C-130 flight crews to help the Sunshine State.
Electric crews from the commonwealth are preparing to go as well. Joe Arnold is with Kentucky Electric Cooperatives. He said they need to wait until the hurricane blows through.
“As we’re watching Ian make landfall, the path is changing. Coordinators are also changing strategy as they try to assess where will the crews been needed. We’re going to wait and see where our crews can be the most help.”
He said they need for outfits in the impacted areas to let them know where the help is most needed.
“We don’t just send people down and find something to help, because it has to be coordinated, strategic, and effective. We wait and we pair specific co-ops in Kentucky with specific co-ops in the disaster zone that way they can have the most effect.”
At least seventy crew members from Kentucky have already volunteered to help.
