Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear showcased his festive Halloween spirit during a recent news conference by dressing up as the fictional soccer coach Ted Lasso. The Democratic governor greeted attendees with a cheerful 'Happy Halloween' before addressing various state issues.
Beshear's costume included a blue zip jacket, visor, and sunglasses reminiscent of the outfit worn by comedian Jason Sudeikis in the popular TV show centered around an American coaching a soccer team in London. While the governor initially sported the full Ted Lasso ensemble, he eventually shed the sunglasses, visor, and jacket as he continued with the conference at the Kentucky Statehouse.
Sharing his costume on social media, Beshear included the uplifting phrase made famous by Ted Lasso: 'Every day is a chance to be better than we were the day before.'
This isn't the first time Beshear has incorporated props into his news conferences. In a previous instance in July, he humorously brandished a bottle of Diet Mountain Dew while apologizing to the soft drink's makers for remarks made during a political critique.
Andy Beshear gained national recognition following his successful reelection as governor of conservative Kentucky last year. He was even considered as a potential running mate for Vice President Kamala Harris before Minnesota Governor Tim Walz was ultimately chosen by the Democratic presidential nominee.
