Central Kentucky is home to the newest Electric Vehicle fast charging station in Richmond. The station was made possible due to National Electric Vehicle Infrastructure Program funds.
Electric vehicle charging stations are just part of a large infrastructure investment Kentucky is implementing. The EV Charging Program is looking to have up to 40 charging stations by 2025.
During the groundbreaking ceremony, Governor Beshear said as a leader in electric vehicle manufacturing, Kentucky continues to expand its production and provide job opportunities.
“In 2022, we joined leaders from AESC to break ground on a two-billion-dollar, state of the art, gigafactory in Bowling Green's, Kentucky Transpark. Creating at least 2,000 jobs in south central Kentucky and we didn't stop there. ”
State officials hope to build more stations along Kentucky's interstates and parkways. Federal Highway Administration Administrator, Shailen Bhatt, believes Kentucky puts its Transportation Infrastructure investments to great use.
"The investment in EV chargers, I think Kentucky is doing a great job of turning those federal dollars into infrastructure that, you know, really puts people to work.”
Governor Beshear said Kentucky has selected developers to install chargers at 24 sites. A second request for proposal will seek to award funding for up to 16 more charging stations.
The site in Richmond is expected to be open to the public 24/7 in April.
