Kenny Dalglish honoured with prestigious PFA award for contributions to football

Sir Kenny Dalglish has been honoured with the 2026 Professional Footballers’ Association Merit Award.

This accolade recognises his remarkable contribution to football, both as a player and manager. Dalglish, 75, had a stellar playing career, winning six league titles and three European Cups with Liverpool, after joining from Celtic in 1977.

He played a key role in four league championships for Celtic in Scotland. As a player-manager, he led Liverpool to a league and FA Cup double in 1986.

After retiring as a player, he managed the Reds to two more First Division titles. His managerial achievements also include masterminding Blackburn Rovers’ Premier League triumph in 1995.

Dalglish is Scotland’s most-capped player, with 102 appearances. In June, he revealed he was undergoing treatment for cancer.
