Monday’s Met Gala saw A-listers walk the red carpet in extravagant gowns and outfits from designers such as Chanel, Fendi and Karl Lagerfeld, which cost thousands of pounds. And while their outfits may have cost a small fortune - some opted for more affordable brands when it came to their makeup.
Kendall Jenner’s makeup artist, Mary Phillips, has revealed that she used a full face of L’Oreal products on the model - including a lash lifting mascara that’s less than £8.
Mary Phillips used 70s mod make-up as her inspiration for Kendall’s Met Gala moment with an emphasis on the eyes, including bold lashes to compliment the upper and lower lash lines with a classic winged liner.

The affordable and easily accessible mascara that Mary used was the L’Oréal Paris Telescopic Lift Mascara, which is usually £12.99 at retailers like Boots and Superdrug - but is currently on offer at Amazon for £7.62.
The product promises ‘up to 5mm longer’ lashes and 24 hours of lift, with no clumping or smudging, making it easy to see why it was the ultimate choice for the Met Gala 2023.
With an exclusive two-sided brush, the flat side allows closer application to the eyeline, while the curved bristles catch lashes from root to tip.
Mary shared a full product breakdown on her own Instagram account, revealing she also used the L’Oréal Paris Infallible Grip Precision Felt Waterproof Liner in 600 Black, also under £10, for that feline flick - a nod to Lagerfeld’s love of cats, perhaps.
To create a dewy base, Kendall’s skin was prepped with L’Oréal Paris Revitalift Filler 1.5% Pure Hyaluronic Acid Serum, which is currently cheapest at LookFantastic for £16.66, and L’Oréal Paris Revitalift Filler Water-Cream.
This was complemented by a fresh face, achieving a matte yet satin finish with L’Oréal Paris Infallible 24 Hour Fresh Wear Foundation and L’Oréal Paris Infallible Foundation Powder and lightly bronzed with L’Oréal Paris Infallible Soft Matte Bronzer.
For those wondering how she achieved her perfect pout, Kendall was wearing the L’Oréal Paris Colour Riche Matte Lip Liner Au Naturale paired with the Colour Riche Intense Volume Matte in Le Nude Admirable.
At the event, held at New York’s Metropolitan Museum of Art, Kendall stepped out onto the red carpet in a glittering black bodysuit by Marc Jacobs, complete with dramatic floor-length sleeves and a sparkling silver collar.
This year, the Met Gala theme was Karl Lagerfeld: A Line of Beauty, with A-listers dressing in tribute to the legacy of the late fashion designer. Among the red carpet looks were vintage Chanel, Fendi, and his own self-titled fashion house, as well as some running themes like pearls, Chanel’s trademark camellia flower and feline fashion.
