Denver Broncos fans don’t need to be reminded that Kendall Hinton is the ultimate team player — he proved that in 2020 when he stepped into a game at quarterback, an impossible situation that he was willing to take on.
Hinton is back playing wide receiver now and he’s not just a feel-good story. The receiver has been a valuable player for Denver this year and he’s demonstrated his versatility by filling in for injured starters at multiple positions.
“I don’t think anybody could understand what he did in that Tennessee game and starting there,” coach Nathaniel Hackett said Tuesday. “To go as long as he had just working [at] one position and then on very first play the game, he’s got to jump to a completely different position. I think that’s just a testament to his intelligence, how he understands the system, knows where to line up and all the different spots we can put him.
“He has been dynamic out there. He’s been able to win on one-on-one routes, he’s got a lot of shiftiness to him, and when you throw that intelligence in there — obviously, because of his experience as a quarterback — he’s been really good for us. We’re so happy to have him and have to keep him going.”
Hinton has hauled in 13 receptions for 227 yards through eight games this season (two starts). Those aren’t flashy totals, but the coaches see beyond the box score, and Hinton has left a good impression.
