When all four of the Denver Broncos’ quarterbacks were ruled out for a Week 12 showdown with the New Orleans Saints last season because of COVID-19 protocols, the team was forced to promote wide receiver Kendall Hinton from the practice squad to the active roster as an emergency quarterback.
With barely any practice and one day’s notice, Hinton was put into an impossible situation. Statistically, he didn’t do well — Hinton threw more interceptions than completions — but the receiver’s resilience and willingness to take on the task was commended by his teammates, coaches and fans.
That was one of many unique storylines from a 2020 season that was hindered by COVID-19. The Pro Football Hall of Fame in Canton, Ohio put together a display highlighting some of the uniqueness of the 2020 season, and Hinton’s wristband is featured prominently.
Hinton appreciates the recognition, and he used humor to poke fun at his performance as a fill-in quarterback.
What a blessing🙏🏾 still unreal.. unfortunately I’ll have to explain to my kids what a negative QBR is someday😂🤦🏽♂️ https://t.co/9OwtaqRny0

Hinton’s quarterback rating was actually 0.1, which obviously isn’t good, but he didn’t actually post a negative grade.
After working as a defensive back in the spring spring, Hinton returned to wide receiver drills at minicamp in June and he’s set to compete for a roster spot at training camp this summer.
