New South Wales man Kenan Dowden-Carlisle has pleaded guilty to murdering a 29-year-old man in broad daylight in Canberra's city centre in December 2021.
The killing happened mid-morning, in the middle of a busy city area, in an alleyway just off Garema Place.
Police were alerted to the crime when the victim, Jordan Powell, collapsed outside a cafe.
Mr Powell died at the scene, despite efforts to revive him by members of the public and police.
Police said CCTV from the area, and evidence from witnesses, suggested Mr Powell had been involved in an altercation just before he died.
Soon afterwards, officers identified Dowden-Carlisle as the other person involved in the altercation.
He was chased by police and arrested after a short pursuit.
The Greenleigh man, who was 19 years old at the time, was charged with murder the day after the attack.
Dowden-Carlisle initially pleaded not guilty and had been committed to stand trial in the ACT Supreme Court later this year.
Police were preparing to call up to 15 witnesses.
But today, he entered a plea of guilty to murder with reckless indifference.
Dowden-Carlisle will be sentenced later this year.
