A one-day jail sentence proposed for a man accused of repeatedly sexually abusing a young boy has ignited a bipartisan revolt against Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton, according to court transcripts and hearing records.

Court transcripts reveal that prosecutors from Paxton's office initially sought to let Adam Dean Hoffman, a former Waco attorney, plead to two misdemeanours in exchange for a single day behind bars.
